NUJ urges FG to expedite action on reconstruction of collapsed new Artisan bridge

Nigeria Union of Journalists Enugu State Council  has urged the federal government of Nigeria to expedite action on the  reconstruction  of the collapsed bridge along  Enugu -Port-Hacourt express way, new Artisan axis  in order to ease the pressure of traffic arising from collapse of the bridge.

The Union also urged  the  Federal government to release result of the integrity test ran on the collapsed bridge as well as relinquish the project of reconstructing the bridge to Enugu  state government if the federal government is unable to repair the bridge, promptly; 

 emphasizing  that the Governor Peter Mbah-led administration is capable of quick completion of the task.

This was contained in a Communique issued at the end of the state  Council’s monthly meeting held on 26Th October,2023 at the Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi Press Center,Enugu.

The Communique signed and made available to newsmen by the Secretary of the NUJ, Enugu state Councîl, Comrade Ifeoma Amuta read :

“The congress headed by the State Chairman, Comrade Sam Udekwe after discussion on how to effectively move the union forward also came up with the following resolutions:

1.The Congress calls on the    Government to expedite action on the  reconstruction  of the collapsed bridge along  Enugu -Port-Harcourt express way, new Artisan axis  in order to ease the pressure of traffic arising from collapse of the bridge.

2. It urges the  Federal government to release result of the integrity test ran on the collapsed bridge as well as relinquish the project of reconstructiom of the bridge  to state government if the federal government is unable to repair the bridge, promptly.

b)It emphasizes that the Governor Peter Mbah-led administration is capable of quick completion of the task.

3.The Council cautions Indigenes and inhabitants of Enugu state to beware of fire outbreak in the current dry season.

4. The Congress notes the risk of Refilling gas cylinders at residential areas in the streets while calling on government to stop culprits/perpetrators by ensuring supervision aimed at sanctioning them.

5.The Congress wants Igbo language to be promoted through its correct pronunciation in written and verbal forms.

6.It raises alarm on  extortion in public schools in the instance of high price of ordinary file which it wants to be  stopped.

7. The Congress commends the Peter Mbah-led administration of Enugu state government  for rehabilitation of roads, advocating that  street lights should be restored by the contractors and engineers so as  to make the roads disability-friendly in all ramifications for the purpose of integration of disabled persons.

8.The Congress wants Law reducing high agency and agreement fees to be instituted to curb the hassle of renting  houses in Enugu.

9.It expresses great shock over the demise of three great Media professionals, Jimmy Edeabasi Abaekong of AIT,Charles Akagu , Chapel Chairman of Daily Star and  a former MD of Enugu State Broadcasting Service,Jika Attoh.

b)It notes that the deceased journalist, Jimmy Edeabasi Abaekong of Africa Independent Television shall be buried on Friday, November 17, 2023.
