Enugu Govt trains 700 youths on skills acquisition


Enugu state Government has commerced the training of 700 (Seven hundred)youths on various specialised skills.

Addressing the benefiaries on Friday at the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs), premises, Enugu, the Focal person,Hon. (Mrs) Marbel Agbo , said that the program is an SDGs programme to empower the youths.


According to her, the state Governor, Rt. Hon(Dr) Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi ,in 2017, approved the training of 750 youths and women to make them self reliant and employment of labour.
The Governor approved the 2020 edition of the program but it was delayed by the Federal Government’s inability to pay it’s own counterpart.
“Now that they were not forthcoming, Governor Ugwuanyi said he will do that,” she said.

Honorable Agbo said the special areas of training are video editing, ,solar installation, catering and baking renewable energy, bead making in line with goals 1 and 2 of the SDGs”.
She urged the beneficiaries to take the programme seriously.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Budgeting, Dr David Ugwunta, said that the programme is to empower 700 youths and unemployed people in Enugu state, to end hunger and to become employers of labour.

He urged the beneficiaries to take the training seriously because they do not know where it will take them.
“This is a very rare opportunity. Over two thousand people applied for the training and 700 persons were taken.
He told the beneficiaries that take off money will be given to them at the end of the three months crash programme and that the amount will be the same. Transportation fare will also be given to them. .
He urged participants to avail themselves of the opportunity and be physically present during the training as there will be no room absence.

On his part, the Implementation Committee Officer, Dr Okenwa Frank Omeje urged the beneficiaries to take the training as a serious business.
“Enugu state is saying, don’t look for job again, be an employer of labour. If you fail in this program , you are indicting the Focal person. Your corporation and commitment to this program will elevate the already high profile of the Focal person,”Oneje said.

On his part the Programme officer ,Nnaji, said that the training centres were three, Udenu local government Secretariat, Ezeagu local government Secretariat and Enugu south local government Secretariat. He urged the participants to choose a centre close to them. Nnaji told them that they must obtain 90 percent attendance to be qualified for the settlement fund.
In their vote of thanks, Umeh Chinaza and Nnabuike Aneke, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked Governor Ugwuanyi ‘sa rare privilege by the grace of God, we will ta is oorpproving and releasing money for the program. They promised to take the training seriously.”It is a rare privilege. By God’s grace we are going to adhere to everything. We are not taking it for granted.”,Umeh said.
