Enugu Govt lauds Armed Forces, assures partnership with Nigerian Legion

Enugu state government has commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their roles in promoting peace, security and unity of the country, assuring partnership with the Nigerian Legion.

The state Governor, Dr.Peter Mbah gave the commendation , Saturday during the launching of the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblems, held at the Michael Okpara Square.

He assured the Nigerian Legion of his administration’s partnership to ameliorate the plights of their members especially on their appeals to the state government.

Reperesented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Chidiebere Onyia, Governor Mbah  said the people of the state have continued to enjoy the efforts of the security agencies in combating crime and criminality, especially the Mondays sit-at-home ordered by the non state actors, noting that investments and businesses cannot thrive in an unsecured atmosphere.

He prayed for the repose of the souls of the fallen heroes and heroines who voluntarily laid down their lives in the service of their fatherland.

The annual event ,which was organised by  the Nigerian Legion,  Enugu State Council, was aimed at raising funds for the support of the living heroes and heroines, particularly those who are maimed, the aged, sick or bedridden, among others.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion Enugu State Council ,Dr  Emeka Igwesi described  the Armed Force Remembrance emblem launch,  as a period set aside in memory of those persons’ who served Nigeria when the country needed them most. He solicited partnership with the state government in the area of security.

Igwesi said the Nigerian Legion has men and women who served in  the Army, Navy and Airfare and are still very young to be engaged in security related jobs, stating that the rare human assets cannot be allowed to waste.

“Your Excellency, may we call your attention to this, and request you integrate the Nigerian Legion, military ex-servicemen, into the security planning and architecture of the state government. Your Excellency, our dear governor, we wish to bring this fact to your knowledge.,” Igwesi said.

Igwesi commended the State Governor Mbah  for his achievements  in less than 200 days in office.
