Gov Mbah urges NYSC to earmark adequate resources , expand skills acquisition projects  for youths 

Enugu state Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah

has urged the Senate committee on  youths, sports and community engagement to include in it’s appropriation meeting, reasonable resources and  expand skills acquisition projects  for the youths.

He made the call Wednesday, when the Senate Committee on Youths, Sports and Community Engagement  led by the commiitttee’s chairman, Distinguished  Senator Adeyemi Adaramodu, paid him a courtesy visit in Government House, Enugu.

Governor Mbah ,who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government , Prof Chidiebere Onyia, explained that having different skills will enable the youths to self reliant. He said the State government has been supportive to the NYSC and will continue to do so

Onyia said: “Governor Mbah is a listening Governor and in less than 200 days in office, significant things had been done as relates to upgrade of the facility.  He  had done some works at the NYSC Camp which was in a deplorable state when they came in. They included  renovation, the borehole and re-roofing projects.

The work there is something we have to build out strategically considering the funding challenges that all states are facing. What His Excellency is doing is working dekigentltly to improving our internally generated revenue by  plugging in all the loopholes and having extra resources to be able to apply our obligations”.

On youth development’,The SSG said  Governor Mbah is careful about the promises he made to the youths of Enugu. “Skill acquisition is one of key things that we put in our time into developing. Most of what  we had done from  the bio – enterprenuer to Information   Technology and Communications ( ICT) space, to improve youths competency.So he  is  working to ensure that  that happens 

On parade ground, he said the State Governor  is mindful of that and the Commissioner for youths and sports has included that in the budget for next year( 2024) ” So, it’s something that we have been working deligentltly towards and to the point” . 

He informed the Committee that the NYSC camp was connected to the national  grid ,but had  issue of vandalization. “We are working hard to put all these things back,  with the transformer energized”, Onyia said.

On utility vehicle,, he said the state government was working towards improving the IGR, in order to meet  project  obligations because this is really important.

Earlier, the chairman, Senate committee on youths and sports, Community Engagement, Distinguished Senator  Yemi Adaramodu said they were on a working visit to the National Youth Service Corps( NYSC), Enugu. 

He appealed to the state Government to renovate the buildings at the NYSC Camp ,Awgu,  provide utûility vehicle for the NYSC and provide electricity to the camp. He also appealed to the state government to construct the road leading to the camp and provide a permanent  parade ground for the NYSC

He appealed to the state government to assist  the scheme with utility vehicle for easy movement, provide electricity at the camp , provide  a permanent  parade ground, and construct the road leading to the camp, to make the environment conducive for the Corps members.
