Gov Mbah tasks State Exco, Heads of Agencies,parastatals on distruptive  innovation to build new Enugu

Governor of Enugu ate, Dr. Peter Mbah has charged the members of the State Executive Council, Chief Executive Officers of Agencies and Parastatals in the state to think out of the box, distrupt inefficiencies and apply strategies needed to grow the economy of the state and build a new Enugu city.

He gave the charge ,Friday, September 22, at the Enugu state Executive Leadership Retreat on “Strategic leadership for distruptive innovation and sustainable development ” ,held at the Nike Lake Resort,Enugu.

The Governor said that it was through distruptive innovation that  the  state could achieve it’s target of growing the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from $4.4billion to projected $30billion  USD( 23 trillion Naira).

He noted that the projected growth would be driven by the interaction of inclusive and sustainable economic growth, poverty eradication, peace, security, critical and economic process.

Governor Mbah added that the state needs to implement ambitious strategies, increase efficiency and achieve optimal operational performance  inorder to achieve the set goal..

He recalled that  the state recently held an Investment  Roundtable, which had started  yielding  good results. He also signed the state electricity law, recently.

The Governor stated that during his  electioneering campaign, he promised to provide  portable water in Enugu within 180 days of assumption of office and it was remaining 66 days, some areas in Enugu and environs ,had started having water. He said the objective was to achieve a capacity  of 20 million litres of water daily.

” Our vision is audaciuos , our destination may be ambigious, but it’s achievable “. He hinted that his administration promised to grow the economy of the state from $4.4 billion to $30 Billion  and reduce  58%poverty  to zero..

” We had to pick up a model that will enable us to grow exponentially.. We are going to distrupt  ourselves. We have to be intentional. . We have  an integrated growth  strategy We are also looking at how we will use  these models to revamp  industries, and  create an investment arm to get  people who man these industries and generate adequate revenue.”, he said..

The  Governor who presented a short video of a “new Enugu city ”  told participants that building a Enugu is possible. “We can do this, we have the intellectual know-how to achieve this. We are not doubting ourselves. Government has to be deliberate .

” We  need to have a revenue model outside the federation account,  we need to mobilise out domestic revenue, block all leakages, .We need to strengthen our institution, the judiciary, the legislature. We must build these institutions . We are also going to deploy technology in these institutions. 

“We cannot begin to endorse what we inherited. You must be able to distrupt inefficiencies and grow our economy , eradicate poverty and have Enugu as a base for economic hub.”, Gov. Mbah stated. .

Earlier, the Secretary to the state Government , Professor Chidiebere Onyia , in an opening remarks, said that the retreat was aimed at training participants for high performances.

The retreat which is the first organised for the appointees, will end on Sunday, September,24.
