8 States participating in Prince Uwakwe 6Th Lawn Tennis Tournament – Organizer

Chairman ,Organising Committee of the ongoing Prince Victor Uwakwe under 15 and 21 Lawn Tennis Tournaments in Enugu , Dr. Lawrence Azike ,has disclosed that the tournament which is on its 6th edition will soon be taken to a national level, noting that eight states are slugging it out for honours in Enugu.

Azike disclosed this to newsmen in Enugu on Wednesday saying that the competition had entered the round of 32 with  Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and Cross Rivers States, from the South South zone and Anambra, Ebonyi and Enugu the host state, from the South East zone 

According to the chairman, the tournament was before restricted to players from South East states but now expanded to South  States and hopefully, it will metamorphose to a national level in no distance time. 

The Tennis Tournaments which  kicked off on August 2 ,2023 at the Enugu State Sports Club Tennis Court ,entered the knock-out stage on August 9 and would end on August 12, 2023.

“We are looking forward to improving the skills of the kids and to enhance their play so that they can stage their stake in the national tournaments,”Azike said.

The chairman said that the registration for the competition has closed and cannot accommodate any state that arrived on Wednesday.

“We made it clear to the expected states that any state that arrived at the knock out stage of the competition will not be accommodated.

“As for age limit, we are trying to ensure that only players under the age of 15 and 21 for both boys and girls take part in the tournament,”Azike said.

Azike advised young tennis players to avail themselves the opportunity provided by the philanthropist, Prince Victor Uwakwe to enrich their skills as a pave way to higher places.

The chairman disclosed that the sponsor has promised to take the tournament up to national level.

“We are looking forward in no distance time, this tournament will metamorphose into a national tournament”, he said
