Nigerian Union Journalists ,Enugu State Council has re-emphasized the importance of Communication to the development of any country, urging government at all levels to re double efforts to prioritize the Information and Communication Sector as the panacea for growth and development of the country.
This was contained in a statement from the Chairman, Comrade Sam Udekwe, made available by the Acting Secrertary Comrade Ifeoma Amuta on Saturday in Enugu.
The Chairman also advocated well channelled communication, devoid of hate speech and fake news which endanger peace and unity in the society. The statement reads:
“As we mark world Communication day 2023, with the theme “Empowering least developed countries through information and Communication technologies, NUJ Enugu State Council has re-emphasized the importance of Communication to the development of any country.
The Chairman of the council, Comrade Sam Udekwe in a Press Statement calls on all tiers of government to re double efforts to prioritize the Information and Communication Sector as the panacea for growth and development of the country.
“Comrade Udekwe advocates well channelled communication, devoid of hate speech and fake news which.” endanger peace and unity in the society.
“He explains that Communication Media need modern facilities, equipment and gadgets to match the latest and trending Communication technologies.
He notes that the power of information in developing the country remains rooted in the efforts and attention given to media workers.
“The Council charges Journalists and media workers to remain Professional in carrying out their duties trusting that together, challenges confronting the Information sector would be surmounted.”
