Enugu state Government has inaugurated a 9-man committee on review of mining activities in Enugu state.
Performing the inuaguration on behalf of the state Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, at the Government House, Enugu,Friday, the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia, announced the ban on mining activities in the state, warning that defaulters would be brought to book.
He said that the State Government would not fold it’s hands and watch illegal miners destroy the environment and “create problem for our children”.
The committee was mandated to , identify illegal mining sites, review all environment assessment documents for all legal mining companies, stop all illegal mining activities in the state and reassess, revalidate all mining companies in the state.
The chairman of the Committee is Prof Sam Ugwu, Commissioner for Environment Sandra Gorge, Secretary; others are Dr. Kingsley Udeh, member, Dan Nwome, Uche Anichukwu, Onyeabor Vincent, Alex Akinlalu and Kingsley Nnaji and Osinachi Nnajieze, members.
Prof. Onyia expressed the hope that the Committee members would bring in their
wealth of experience in discharging their duties . Their appointment took off immediately.
