One year in office: Gov Mbah reassures commitment in transforming Enugu

Governor of Enugu state, Dr. Peter Mbah has re-assured the commitment  of his administration in growing the economy of the  state and  improving the infrastructural, social development  and the well-being of the  people of tbe state.

He gave the re-assurance on Monday,May 27, at  government house Enugu during a Media chat  with some media representatives to mark his One year in office. Governor Mbah spoke on various strides his administration had achieved within one year in office.

On education, he said  his administration  realizes the importance of education and understood that if they did not do something meaningful in the sector ” our children will be left behind’.

He said inorder to create  equal access to quality  education his administration embarked on establishment of 260 SMART GREEN schools across the 260 wards in the state. Governor Mbah said the school children “must go through that exponential learning.” adding that they were building  a center for experiential  learning.

According to him, the SMART GREEN school initiative  is aimed at changing the mindset of the future generation in order to compete with their peer groups across the globe.

He said the SMART school children will be taken on experimental learning of Mechatronics, Artificial Intelligence, Augmented reality, robotics and smart life ideology.

On water project,  Governor Mbah said his administration promised to supply  portable in Enugu within 180 days in office, a fete  he achieved. He explained that there were challenges of damaged pipes and vandalism. He said  his administration has embarked on aggressive maintenance work to fix the pipes.

On the issue of Enugu public ranch, Governor Mbah said the Enugu Public Ranch Management Agency bill recently passed by the state house of assembly, is aimed at expanding the business scope of” Ndi Enugu.”

He said the initiative will also create job opportunities, end street rearing of animals, reduce farmers/herders crises, and promote food security.

Governor Mbah disclosed that  a mega market will be cited around the ranching area where small and medium businesses will be promoted.

He  frowned at several social media interpretations, noting that his administration was determined to grow the economy of the state exponentially.

He described Ndi Igbo as business minded people, saying they should take advantage of the initiative for livestock business.

Fielding questions on taxation,  Governor Mbah said,” we haven’t increased taxation rate. What we did  was to expand the tax net  where those  who were not  captured now pay tax as an obligation.

He spoke on  the proposed ultramodern bus terminal to be cited at Holy Ghost, Abakpa, Gariki, Nsukka and  9⁸mile . He said it was aimed at changing the face of the state to international standard as well as revisiting the state master plan.

The Governor  said he is in a hurry to fulfil his campaign promises and the social contract his administration entered into on assumption of the on May 29, 2023 when he told them that truly” tomorrow is here’

 

He said the state government had made tremendous efforts in security and had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Pragmatic Palm  in which the state will contribute 40% and the Pragmatic  Palm will contribute 60%. He disclosed that his administration is transforming the health sector and is  building 260 Type 2 Primary health centers across the 260 wards in the state.

Governor Mbah also disclosed that his administration is constructing a -Five Star hotel at the premises of the International Conference Center, Enugu. The international conference center which was abandoned over 16 years is being completed by his administration among others.
