Enugu police command empowers officers,calls for women empowerment

Commissioner of Police,,Enugu state Police Command, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has joined Police Officers Wives in the State to mark the 2024 International Women’s Day.

Speaking at the event, which was held at the Senior Police Officers Mess, Agbani Road, Enugu, the CP extolled the uncommon courage, caregiving, and nation-building spirits of women. He noted that women remain crucial in accelerating progress of human society and reversing the contemporary social, economic, and political challenges.

CP Kanayo, who was represented by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in the Command’s Department of Finance and Administration, ACP Hope Isiani Okereke, called for maximum support, investment, and empowerment of women, particularly the girl child,

Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu State Command, Headquarters, DSP Daniel Ndukwe in a statement made available to newsmen on Saturday said, the President of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) and wife of the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. (Mrs.) Elizabeth Egbetokun, represented by the Enugu State Chairperson of POWA and wife of the Commissioner of Police, Barr. (Mrs.) Joy Uzuegbu, appreciated the courage and tireless efforts of Police Officers Wives, particularly those whose husbands are deceased or faced with health challenges, to maintain their homes in the face of the prevailing global social and economic challenges.

The POWA President said the essence of the celebration, with the theme “Inspire Inclusion, Value, and Empower Women,”  was to appreciate, inspire, and empower Police Officers’ wives, as well as give them a sense of belonging.

Highlights of the event were the empowerment of over one hundred and fifty Police Officers’ wives, particularly those whose husbands are either deceased or experiencing health challenges, with business start-up packages.

There were presentations on business and financial empowerment opportunities by the representatives of Amyandy Foundation, MTN Nigeria, Union Bank of Nigeria, Hybrid Feeds Limited, Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), among others
