Mrs Mbah’s Custos Care Foundation announces scholarship to  children whose mother was said to be “crushed to death” 

Wife of Enugu state Governor, Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah’ has announced sponsorship of three siblings ( under Seven years) who lost their parents in mysterious ways. This ,she said, would be done through her newly launched NGO, ” Custos Care Foundation”

The Governor’s wife announced the scholarship , Saturday,March 2nd,2024 when she paid an unscheduled visit to Ogui Police station Enugu, where the children were  kept in police custody .

Mrs Mbah ,who was touched by the pathetic story surrounding the mother of the children, who could not give detailed information about their family, said she will take care of the children and train them from Nursery school to University level.

It was gathered that ,”the woman,whose identity was not known, who was obviously suffering from depression , dropped  her three children at the Police station, pulled her cloth, was naked and ran into a moving vehicle,which crushed her, leaving  the children who are below 6 years”.

The eldest of the children,when asked about their father, said their father was “lost”. She could not give any other information about their family, their town or residential address.

The compassionate wife of  Enugu state Governor, Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah, on getting the information, went straight to Ogui Police station after the celebration of the 2024 International Women’s Day held on Saturday, to see the children. She announced that her Non Governmental Organisation, Custos Care Foundation will sponsor the children’s education from Nursery school to University level. She also directed the immediate  relocation of the children  from Ogui Police station to a  home,where the State Government  will take care of them.

Mrs Mbah urged people who were depressed to seek help and go for counseling to avoid taking drastic decisions . She also urged the Commissioner for  Ministry of Children, Gender and Social Development , Mrs Ngozi Enih ,to intensify sensitization and counselling of people, especially depressed persons to help them come out of the situation.

Custos Care Foundation, is a Non-Governmental Organization founded by the wife of Enugu state Governor,Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah. This brainchild of Her Excellency was launched across the three senatorial zones of Enugu state, recently.

Meanwhile, the police public relations officer, Enugu state Police Command, DSP  Daniel Ndukwe when contacted,   said, “On March 2, at about 8:30 a.m., the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) of Central Police Station (CPS) and Ogui Police Division received distress calls alleging that a woman abandoned her three children in front of God Is Good Terminal along Ogui Road by Osisatech Roundabout, Enugu. The callers further alleged that the woman stripped herself naked due to a mental disorder before running off to an unknown destination. The DPOs and their teams immediately moved to the scene, where they found and took the children to Ogui Police Station and commenced investigations to locate their mother.

“During investigations, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, wife of the Executive Governor of Enugu State, visited the Police Station, offering scholarships for welfare support for all three children (names withheld), aged six, three and two years, respectively. Afterward, they were handed over to the Ministry of Gender Affairs and Social Development through Mrs. Ngozi Enih, the Honourable Commissioner overseeing the Ministry.

“Additionally, the woman’s husband reported to the Police Station and stated that his yet-to-be seen wife recently started displaying strange behaviours, which suggested signs of mental health issues. He further stated that he returned from work in the morning hours of the said day of the incident, and met the absence of his wife and the children at their home in the Ugwuaji area of Enugu South Local Government Area”, Ndukwe said. 

He said the whereabouts of the woman is not known and there was no pedestrian accident on that day,  and the information was not true.He also said the story opened his eyes to another angle, noting that some people can do certain things because of hardships. He prayed that the woman will be seen alive..

Meanwhile, residents who spoke to newsmen said police should carry out  an intensed investigation especially, regarding the man who came to the station that he was the father of the children. They said it is important because the eldest child of the woman said their father was’ lost.”

They commended the Custos Care Foundation of the wife of Enugu state Governor ,Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah for offering scholarships to the children, from primary school level to the University level and for giving the children shelter.
