Enugu Gov’s wife, Nkechinyere Mbah , others call for an end to female genital mutilation

Enugu state Governor’s wife,  Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah, Tuesday, February 6,  flagged off a sensitization campaign on the dangers of female genital mutilation in commemoration of the 2024   International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation.

The event held at  Amagunze in  Nkanu East Local Government Area of the state, resource persons described  female genital mutilation as a harmful practice, which is  against the female- child.

Those who spoke at the event included Barr Ngozi Enyosiobi Abafor, principal Partner Chidan Solicitors, Mrs Joy Atu,  Ministry of Justice Enugu,  experienced health personnel, and activists. They spoke on the dangers of  female genital mutilation.

The resource persons said genital mutilation could lead to bleeding, Urinary tract infection, fistula, psychological problem among others. They therefore called for an end to the harmful practoç.

 The dignitaries  in attendance were the Nkanu East Chairperson, Mrs Rita Edeh, wives of the Local Government Chairmen,  traditional rulers, HRH Igwe Abel Nwobodo, HRH Igwe Edeani, HRH Fidelis Nwatu, HRH Rt Hon Ed Nweke, HRH Igwe Elder Emmanuel Nnamdi, and various religious leaders

Others were Mrs Ifeoma Amadi, Personal Assistant  to the wife of the state Governor, Dr Uzoamaka Okenwa Uzoechina, Technical Adviser,, Nwosu Favour, Special Adviser to the wife of the Governor on External Affairs, women, groups,  secondary schools students among others..

The event which had an  interactive session, featured cultural dance  performance.
