ECCIMA extols Gov Mbah’s leadership strides ….Announces date for 2024 Enugu Int’l Trade Fair

Leadership  of the  Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ECCIMA) has extolled the  achievements recorded by the Enugu state Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, in the areas of security, infrastructure, education and investment-friendly environment since he assumed office in the past eight months.

hairman, Board of Trustees of ECCIMA and Chief Executive Officer of Roban Stores, Sir Rob Anwatu, and the newly elected President of ECCIMA, Sir Odega Jideonwo gave the commendation on  Monday, when they led other Council members of ECCIMA on a  courtesy visit to the Governor at Government House, Enugu.

Sir Anwatu, who led the Council said, the turnaround of the state had boosted their confidence to invest more in the state. 

We note with delight your painstaking efforts through various programmes in the past eight (8) months of your administration, which have touched so many lives in areas of Agriculture, Infrastructures, Education, Security, Health etc, to enhance the state Economy,”Anwatu said.

He disclosed that they came to pay homage to the Governor , Introduce the new executive Council of the Chambers to him, invite the Governor  to the investiture of the new President of ECCIMA, brief him about the forthcoming 35th Enugu International Trade Fair and share the vision of the Organized Private Sector towards the development of the Enugu.

The BoT chairman  informed the Governor that the new  Executives were elected on Thursday, 25th January, 2024, at the 50th AGM of the Chambers and the election produced the 17th Executive Council of ECCIMA with Sir Odelga Jideonwo, the CEO of Oaklands Hotel as the President

He said  the investiture of the new President and the inauguration of Council will hold on Saturday, February 24, 2024 and the event  will  feature the prestigious Bi-annual Keyman Award of ECCIMA established in 1986 to honour and recognize outstanding Entrepreneurs and Captains of Industry who have distinguished themselves and Impacted positively towards the growth and development of the national economy..

Anwatu also  informed the Governor that the 35th edition of the Enugu International Trade Fair will hold at the Permanent Site along the Enugu-Onitisha Expressway from Friday, 5th Monday, 15th April, 2024 with the theme, “Promoting Made in Nigeria Products for Global Competitiveness”. Interestingly, this is the 15th Fair we shall be hosting at the Permanent Site.

This theme was chosen to re-emphasize the imperative of policy reforms that would support the growth of SME’s towards achieving a self-sufficient, productive/export based economy”, he said..

Throwing more light on the Fair, the chairman said, ‘We are introducing  this time , a specially designated area for the exhibition of new products, prototypes, innovations and research findings from Enugu State for commercialization. This exhibition area will give special consideration to Agribusiness initiatives. This way we will be bringing researchers and business people together for commercialization of their break through”, he said .

The Council commended Governor Mbah for the numerous projects his administration has embarked on in the state , appealing to him to support the ECCIMA in infrastructural development at the Trade Fair complex .

He assured the Governor of ECCIMA’s  total support in his quest to grow the state’s economy from $4.4bn to $30bn.

Responding, Governor Mbah congratulated the new executives for their victory. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to work with the private sector by providing the right infrastructure, support and environment for them to thrive in the state. He said his government was working hard to de-risk investment and sustain the peace and security presently enjoyed.

Because we recognise that the vision we have to grow this economy from the current levels of $4.4b to $30b will only happen through private sector investment, we have to continually engage with the private sector to understand how we can scale up their business and also create environment for those who have not taken advantage of the friendly business environment of Enugu to come in and participate here,” the governor maintained.

He said despite Enugu’s high rating in terms of security of lives and property, his administration would not rest on its oars in that regard.
