Enugu Govt  approves establishment of Army Barracks in Isi-uzo L.G.A

As part of the measures put in place to curb  insecurity in the state, Enugu State Government has approved the establishment of Army Barracks in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of the state.

This was made known by the state Commissioner for Information, Aka Eze Aka , while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executives Councîl’s meeting held ,Friday in Government House, Enugu.

Aka said  200 soldiers will be sent  to Isi-Uzo  to protect the people of the area.

Speaking on road projects,  the Commissioner for works and Infrastructure, Honorable Engr. Gerald  Otiji, commended the state Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah for his support to his ministry and for the massive road projects going on in the state. He also commended the  people of the state for their patience with the ongoing road constructions which have caused a lot of traffic at  various parts of the state.

Otiji said there is now a renewed vigour to ensure that all awarded roads in the state are completed without further delays.

Throwing more light on the 20-Days ultimatum given to contractors to complete the ongoing projects, Otiji explained that the state government had few days ago,  read riot act to construction firms and issued a 20-day ultimatum on all ongoing projects, warning that failure to meet the deadline given to them would attract sanctions in line with the laws of the land and their contract terms.

He said soonest , the state government will be briefing the people of the state on the number of the roads that have been asphalted.

Fielding questions on the new Artisan bridge reconstruction work, the Commissioner  commended the Federal government on the pace of the work there. . He expressed optimism that the reconstruction work will be completed in record time.

Speaking on education, the Commissioner for education, Professor Ndubueze Mbah, said the State Executives approved the  establishment of Teachers Service Commission as one of the strategies to ensure teachers welfare as well as professionalising of the teaching profession in the state.

He said the Council deliberated on how to effectively put the 33 percent of the state budget dedicated to education to impactful use in improving the quality of education in the state.

Prof Mbah stressed that  education reform is a focal point of the state government in the areas of social intervention and economic development in the long term to ensure that the investments across all sectors are sustainable.

He assured teachers in the state of their welfare, noting that the state Government has their back.

On his part, the Commissioner for youths and Sports, Honorable Lyold Ekweremadu, said the ministry of Youths and Sports will be supporting the ministry of education in deploying  their strategies on how to utilize  the 33 percent allocation  dedicated to education. He explained that they work inter- ministerially; schools have sporting facilities, so his ministry will be working with the Ministry of Education .

On Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium, he said Rangers International Football Club has come  back to the “Cathedral” and there is much work to be done at the stadium. Ekweremadu commended Rangers International Football Club for winning their first two matches.

He announced that the state Government  and a  Development partner, DEL-YORK Group , today(Friday) signed an agreement for  the establishment of 042 Arena (Sports and Entertainment  city) and they were excited for what the state has for  the people.
