Chairman of Udi Local Government Area of Enugu state, Honorable Nze Philip Oko has constructed a new High Court i at the Local Government Secretariat, Udi, calling for additional year to be added to the approved two years in office duration for Local Government Chairmen.
He said that the present two -year duration is too small for the Chairmen to execute projects they initiated , but a three -year duration will give the Chairmen adequate time to execute signature projects.

Oko made the call, Thursday, when the Good Governance team comprising the tripartite committee of the Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC), the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)and the Civil Society Organizations (CSO) visited the Local Government for inspection of projects he carried out in the local government.

The Chairman said that the High Court project was built on the foundation of a library complex, abandoned Thirty Five years ago. He explained that the modern Court complex will help in prompt dispensing of justice .
He said his administration also embarked on construction of an event centre, a 2,500 capacity Civic center, which is ongoing at the Local Government Secretariat.

Oko said that he embarked on the project because most functions that would have been held in Udi were taken to Enugu because there was no Civic center in Udi.

According to him, the 2,500 capacity Civic centre and the High Court will have facilities like POP, toilet facilities, Air Conditioner, solar, water among others.
The chairman said the Event centre will be privatized and the manager will be paying a percentage to the Council.

On security, Oko said his administration has spent multi million niara in clearing of bush at Nvene- Four corner area,construction of military post at Nvene, to enhace security in the local government area, supporting the security agents.
Other projects executed by Nze Oko included the construction of 1.4km road with drainage in Obinagu, installation of 500KV transformer in Obinagu, renovation of borehole at the Secretariat, construction of Culverts at Umuabi, Construction of Neighbourhood watch headquarters building, sponsoring of four youths on Agricultural training and empowering them with a grant of Five hundred thousand naira to each of them and erosion control at Obinagu among others.
Earlier , the chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Fabian Nwigbo told the chairman that the aim of the Good Governance tour is to visit the local government areas in the state and inspect the projects executed by the chairmen.
“Every Local Government has its own peculiarities and we report things as they are . It has been on for Six years. Since we started it we have seen improvement.”, Nwigbo said.
He added that the chairmen who did well will be encouraged while those who did not do well will be urged to sit-up.
