Deputy Gov Ossai unveils Enugu NAWOJ office as members hail Gov Mbah,Ossai, NUJ, Chukwuma,Ngwu,Nwobodo for their support

It was a great outing, a success story, Friday, October20,2023, when members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ)Enugu Chapter, received modern office equipment

donated to the association by the Deputy Governor of Enugu state, Barrister Ifeanyi Ossai, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) led by Comrade Sam Udekwe and others

The association also received equipment purchased with the donation made by the state Governor ,Dr. Peter Mbah; the Anglican Archbishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical Province , Most Rev Professor Emmanuel Chukwuma, senator representing Enugu West ,Osita Ngwu, and former Commissioner for Commerce Ogbu Nwobodo among others.

Presenting a new Printer to the association at the event held at the Rt. Hon Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi NUJ ,Press centre ,Enugu, the Deputy Governor urged members to always report events objectively. He said the item will help ease the challenges faced in the day to day administration of the association.

Ossai, who was represented by the Information officer, Deputy Govermor’s office, Anthonia Okafor, congratulated the executives and members of the association on their anniversary.

He wished them more successful tenure ahead, assuring them of the state Government’s continual support to NAWOJ .

On his part, the chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Comrade Sam Udekwe, presented a new desktop to NAWOJ. He said, “we are in a digital world and the NUJ realised the importance of Information Communications Technology in our world today, hence, the donation of the item to help the executives and members to be more effective in their duties , especially in the areas of information gathering, storage and retrieval.

He congratulated NAWOJ executives as they celebrated their one year in office and called for more successes. The chairman itreassured the association of the NUJ’s continual support to NAWOJ.

Former Vice President of NAWOJ, South East zone, Comrade Chieso Aninwagwa, in a brief remarks, congratulated the Executives for clocking one year in office . She urged them to continue to do well in uplifting the image of NAWOJ. She solicited for more support of members to move the Association to greater heights .

Earlier, the Chairperson of NAWOJ, Comrade Ngozi Ngene , thanked members of the Planning committee,Comrades Lucy Harry -Enwu , Mma Okonkwo, Maureen Ikpeama, Clementina Ngwu, Angela Enyi and all those who contributed to the success of the event.

She said, “the launch of the new equipment will not only improve our efficiency, productivity, attract international donors, ,but will reduce cost of administration.”

Ngene listed some of the achievements of her executives to include Voter educaton to rural women for 2023 electioneering; rehabilitation of an Enugu-based violence victim;radio program on women and children rights ;exclusive breastfeeding program , among others.

She appreciated the NAWOJ national president,Comrade Ladi Bala for selecting Enugu NAWOJ to join other Networks to implement a project in patnership and Palladium under SCALE/ USAID that seek to consolidate the activation /implementation of Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law and activation of criminal justice law towards speedy justice delivery for survivors of sexual gender based violence funded by USAID.

She said NAWOJ will continue to fight against any gender based violence issues, noting that NAWOJ is ready to patner groups, corporate bodies on programs that impart lives, especially on women, youth and children .

Presenting items attracted by the 2023 Anniversary/ Office equipment Appeal fund Committee, member of the Committee, Comrade Maureen Ikpeama, thanked all who supported NAWOJ in setting up an office with modern equipment.

She thanked in a special way, the Executive Governor of Enugu state, Dr. Peter Mbah, the Deputy Governor, Barrister Ifeanyi Ossai, the Archbishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical province and Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Anglican Communion, His Grace Most Rev Professor Emmanuel Chukwuma, Senator representing Enugu West senatorial zone, Osita Ngwu, former Commissioner for Commerce, Enugu state, Hon. Ogbu Nwobodo, the chairman of the Correspondents chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists,Comrade Law Njoku, all the Executives and members of the chapel , and all those who supported the Committee to make the event a success.

“Some of the items attracted included desktop, printer, projector, public address system, sets of chairs among others, ” she said

In her vote of thanks, the chairman of the planning committee, Comrade Lucy Harry-Enwu, thanked Enugu state Governor, Dr. Mbah and all those who supported the Committee to make the program a huge success.

“I appreciate the Enugu NAWOJ executives for finding me and my committee members worthy to discharge the assignment. I also want to take this opportunity to specially thank Comrades Mma Okonkwo and Maureen Ikpeama for selfless efforts and commitment towards the actualization of this project,” she said.

Highlights of the event were the presentation of the office equipment attracted by the committee and cutting of anniversary cake.
