Enugu Govt. to augument FG’s subsidy palliative

Enugu Stated oo Government, Monday ,announced it’s approval to augument the Federal Government’s fuel subsidy palliative to the state, the state government also re-assured it’s commitment to archiving it’s campaign promises of providing portable water supply in Enugu metropolis within 180 days of assumption of office.

This was made known by the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Aka Eze Aka, while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executives Council meeting held today, September 4,2023 at Government House,Enugu.

He said that people had expressed concerns about the issues of palliative, hence, the State Government’s approval to partner the federal government in providing succour to the people of the state and cushion the effects of the removal of fuel subsidy on them.

On provision of water in Enugu metropolis within 180 days of Governor Peter Mbah’s assumption of office, Aka, said that the state government was committed to fulfilling it’s campaign promises. He urged the people of the state not to sabotage the State Government’s efforts but to take ownership of the project.

Throwing more lights on the issues discussed at the state executives meeting, , the Commissioner for Gender and Children, Hon (Mrs )Ngozi Enyi, said that the Federal Government delivered 8,400 bags of 25KG rice to the state and the state Governor, Dr Peter Mbah had agreed to argument it,

“The target is for each ward to receive at least 200 bags of rice and Governor has agreed to aurgument it,” Enyi said.

The Commissioner disclosed that the Committee in charge of sharing the palliative, headed by the Deputy Governor, Ifeanyi Ossai, said it will merge the formula, adopted by the federal government. I

According to her, the beneficiaries would include the vulnerable, the widows,Church dependents and the poorest of the poor. She explained that Clergymen including the Catholic Priests, Anglican Priests,Methodist and Pentecostal priests were members of the palliative sharing committee .
The inclusion of the priests, she said , was for transparency you see accountability.

Speaking on infrastructure, the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Gerald Otiji, said they had mapped out some areas for road construction. He disclosed that they were working on the infrastructure , to create the areas where pipes would be laid for reticulation of the water project.

On road construction, Otiji said that construction of roads in some parts of Enugu will soon commence. He mentioned Abakpa, Achara layout, Tran-Ekulu, Uwani, Asata, Independence layout, Awkunanaw ,as parts of the areas for the road construction.
He said that Governor Mbah wants good , lasting roads to be constructed.

On his part, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Dr Felix Nnamani ,said that the State Government was committed to ensuring water supply to every household in Enugu metropolis within 180 days of Governor Mbah’s assumption of office.

Nnamani noted that water had started running in 9Th mile and some parts of Enugu. He disclosed that the state government had created water centres for people to get water,adding that it was 40% of the population in Enugu that had access to portable water, but the state Governor, Dr Peter Mbah ,was extending the recticulation of water in Enugu..v

The Commissioner hinted that the havestor pipes were being replaced with iron pipes and some residents have water supply in their homes.

“There. Is water in Abakpa, Achara layout, Abakpa, and Thinkers Corner”, he said.
He said that once Enugu metropolis is done with, the water project will be extended to other towns like, Agbani, Nsukka, Awgu,Oji River and others.
