Gbajabiamila resigns , assumes office as Chief of staff to Tinubu

Former Speaker of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has resigned from th10th House of Representatives and assumed office as Chief of staff to President Tinubu.

Gbajabiamila tendered his resignation letter on Wednesday on the floor of the House before the new speaker, Tajudeen Abass and the members of the House.

The former Speaker subsequently took a bow before the new Speaker and the members before walking out of the chamber amidst cheers and standing ovation from the lawmakers.

During his two-decade law-making career in the House, Gbajabiamila was Minority Leader, Majority Leader, and Speaker at various times.He was reelected to represent Surulere 1 Federal Constituency in Lagos State before his new appointment and was sworn in as a member of the House at the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly on Tuesday.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Gbajabiamila expressed his gratitude to God and announced his resignation from the 10th House of Representatives.

He highlighted his privilege of initiating the first motion in the new House, which addressed the urgent need to prepare for and mitigate the negative impact of potential heavy flooding in certain parts of the country.

Gbajabiamila also confirmed that he has assumed his new role as the Chief of Staff to the President, expressing his readiness to collaborate with President Bola Tinubu in delivering his transformative Renewed Hope agenda for Nigeria.

Gbajabiamila wrote, “To the glory of God, I resigned my membership of the newly Inaugurated 10th House of Representatives today. I had the privilege to move the first motion in the new House which was on the need to prepare to avert the negative effects of the forecast of heavy flooding in some parts of the country. The House passed the resolutions accordingly. Thereafter, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read my resignation letter and declared my seat vacant. An opportunity for the people of Surulere 1 Federal Constituency to elect my replacement.

I have assumed my new office as the Chief of Staff to the President in readiness to work with Mr. President in delivering his Renewed Hope agenda for Nigeria.”
