Former Governor of Akwa Ibom, senator Godswill Akpabio (APC) has emerged Senate president of the 10th Senate .

In a keenly contested election, Akpabio polled 63. votes to defeat his sole rival, former Governor of Zamfara state Abdullazi Yari (APC) had 46 votes.
Similarly, the Senate also elected Jibrin Barau (APC) as Deputy Senate President , unopposed
