Suspects accused of the murder of a final year student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Osun state, Okolie Arinze, have been arrested and handed over to the police.
Public relations officer, OAU , Abiodun Olarewaju disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday, in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The final-year student of the Civil Engineering Department Arinze , was beaten to death by an angry mob on Monday for allegedly stealing a phone.
The incident was said to have happened in the Awo Hall of the institution.
The deceased was rushed to the Emergency Medicine Department of OAU Teaching Hospital on Tuesday afternoon and was confirmed dead.
“Nobody knows that students can go to that level of indiscipline to cost the life of their mate,” Olanrewaju said.
He stressed that the suspects should have adhered to the constitutional provisions and the university’s regulations rather than taking the law into their hands.
Olarewaju said the university had set up a committee to unravel the circumstances leading to the murder of the student.
