Enugu state Governor, Dr Peter Mbah has urged the State’s 8th Assembly members-elect to work deligently for the state ,through quality legislation.
He gave the advice while declaring open, a Two-Day Pre-inauguration workshop for 8th Assembly members-elect of Enugu state House of Assembly, held on Thursday, at Nike Resort,Enugu.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Ifeanyi Ossai, the Governor also admonished the newly elected legislators to work hard to render selfless services to their constituents, show determination to serve, and work with the state government for the growth of Enugu state.
Ossai disclosed that Governor Mbah wants constructive partnership with the legislative arm saying, “For the past 27 years that Enugu state has existed, no parliament in the state has been lucky to be richly endowed with the political diversity as your parliament.
“Peter Mbah offers constructive partnership with the parliament and we will do whatever is required to ensure that the partnership is sustained.
“We came up with the mantra of disruptive innovation and the Governor is making effort to infuse the executive arm with the intellectual energy needed so that our people will be happy at the end of the day, because there is capacity with the Governor to navigate the process and the process is to make pathway to the great Enugu, the apex development that we need to develop the state,” he said.
The Deputy Governor solicited with the in-coming legislators to join hands with the Executive arm in its determination to further develop Enugu state.
Ossai congratulated the members-elect on their victory at the polls, stating that their victories indicated their determination to serve the state.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Clark of the House/ Head of legislative service, Dr. Emmanuel Udaya noted that the workshop has remained a valuable platform for exposing members to the fundamentals of legislative business.He hinted that there was a need to improve on the achievements of the past 7th Assembly in the new 8th Assembly, hence, the workshop.
He added that the aim of the workshop was to build a crop of ardent legislators that will intensify the business of lawmaking and legislative advocacy for good governance and improvement in legislative service delivery.
The Clark said that the Assembly is expected to design and implement a radical, thought-provoking programme that will inspire and prepare them for the task ahead.
The workshop he said, was also aimed at exposing the members-elect more to the fundamentals of governance, legislative practice and procedures, leadership, management and related issues.
“This programme is aimed at providing a platform for participants to deepen their
understanding of the mandate, workings, vision, governance and legislative processes and to guide them to collectively reflect / initiate strategies that will enhance the delivery of the mandate of the members and management of the State Assembly,” he said.
Udaya said the objectives of the workshop were, “to provide participants with a holistic view of the legislative and governance architecture including the role of other stakeholders in the process. To provide a platform for participants to reflect on contemporary legislative challenges, their roles in addressing the bottlenecks and agree on immediate interventions that will heat the ground running. To keep members abreast of the structure and workings of the legislature.

The 8th Assembly members-elect were 24, Labour Party (LP) has 14 members
and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
has 10 members. Date for their inauguration is yet to be announced.
