Police operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested the prime suspect in the brutal murder and beheading of a 69-year-old woman, Mrs. Obianuju Akubi, which occurred in Umuleri, Anambra East Local Government Area in July 2024.
According to a statement made 7 to Newsmen by the Anambra state Police state Command’s Police public relations officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect, Obadigbo Emmanuel Anumudu, aged 46, was apprehended on 4th October 2025 by officers of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, following credible intelligence that led to his hideout in Aguleri.

Anumudu, who had been on the run since the gruesome incident on 22nd July 2024, reportedly confessed during interrogation to being directly involved in the killing and beheading of the victim. He also revealed the identities of his accomplices and the location where the victim’s severed head was taken after the crime.
The Police Command assured that intense efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining gang members and bring all culprits to justice.
