Enugu Govt commences training of 1,000 STV teachers to improve learning

Enugu state government has commenced training of 1,000 Science, Technical and Vocational teachers to improve educational standard and enshrine latest educational innovations in classrooms.

Declaring the training open, Monday in Enugu, the Chairman of Science, Technical and Vocational Schools Management Board (STVSMB) , Dr Amaka Ngene, said the transformative training program tagged, “21st Century Pedagogy in Science, Technical & Vocational Education was organized by the STVSMB in partnership with the Enugu State College of Education (Technical).

According to her, “This training, particularly designed for our technical and vocational teachers under the Science Technical and Vocational Schools Management Board, is one of the many ways His Excellency, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, is preparing our educators for 21st-century professional growth. It also reflects his unwavering commitment to sustaining the professionalization of the teaching profession in Enugu State.

“This training could not be more timely, and I am proud that STVSMB is leading the way in ensuring that no teacher who is willing to learn will be left behind, ” she said.

Calling for collaboration, Dr Ngene said, “As we embark on this journey of pedagogical renewal and innovation, let us embrace the opportunity to grow, collaborate, and inspire.

“Together, we are shaping a future where our students thrive, our teachers are empowered, and our education system stands as a model of excellence.,” she said.

Dr. Ngene added that the training and other subsequent trainings would positively reposition learning and lead to better academic outcomes for students in science, technical and vocational schools.

“They are going to learn new approaches to teaching using the ICT, use of other technological devices and practical use of new equipment provided by Gov. Mbah to enhance learning in the state,” she said.

Dr. Ngene also disclosed that the training had been fully funded by the state government, adding that accommodation had been provided as well.

In her address, the Provost, Enugu State College of Education (Technical), Enugu, Dr Stella Ekwueme, commended Governor Mbah for he described as , his uncommon stride and commitment to improve education at all levels in the state.

“Governor Mbah is building 260 Smart Schools; recently paid arrears owed to Staff of this College; funded accreditation of our courses; constructing the Centre of Learning and Innovation; and increased our subvention among others,” Ekwueme said.

She assured the STVSMB Board that the college would abide by all terms in the Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) signed with the board as it had set ready its lecturers to deliver on the MoU.

The provost urged the teachers to take the training seriously and ask questions on whatever they do not fully understand. She disclosed that adding: “Practical (hands-on) aspect of the training will be more.”
