Enugu govt approves establishment of food nutrition unit in ministries   

Enugu state Government  has approved immediate establishment of food and nutrition unit  in some  selected line ministries that will be working   in line with the national food policy .to ensure food security in the state

National Food Program is a series of initiatives aimed at ensuring food security, promoting agricultural development, and improving nutrition across the country. These programs are multifaceted, involving various government bodies, NGOs, and international organizations, and they address different aspects of the food system, from production to consumption.

The program focuses on ensuring sustainable access, availability, and affordability of quality food for all Nigerians. it includes boosting agricultural productivity, improving storage and processing, and developing market infrastructure.

Briefing newsmen at the end of the State Executive council meeting held on Friday  in Government House ,Enugu, the state Commissioner for Youths and Sports , Llyord  Ekweremadu , said the decision was an opportunity for Enugu Stare government to recommit  to it’s promise and mandate on  eradicating poverty in the state ensuring food security . 

National Policy on Food and Nutrition is a
policy which provides a framework for addressing food and nutrition challenges through a multi-sectoral approach, aimed at reducing malnutrition by alleviating poverty and improving living standards.It includes the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP):
This program provides nutritious meals to public primary school pupils, sourced locally from farmers and producers, while also supporting the local economy.

According to him, the selected Ministries are the ministry of trade and investment, budget and planning, information, education , human development and poverty alleviatiom and ministry of  Agriculture .

Ekweremadu said the Ministries would work together and  ,it is expected that food and nutrition unit will provide free meal at  Smart schools across the state ..

The state government also  committed to digitization process and e-governance in the public service and approved to  procure  20, 000 units of computers to share to  workers at the state  public service to ensure the digitization process takes place in full swing.

.The Head of Service , Dr. Godwin Anigbo said, the state government is so passionate with  the deployment of technology to solve problems. and it is expected  that when they come upstream,  they will have high level of  productivity in the public  service  and  will track performance

“Civil service is very critical in terms of implementation of system  and policies in  critical reforms of  this government,” he said..

Earlier, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Malachy Agbo told Newsmen that the state Executives thanked  President Bola  Tinubu , the minister of education and the Governing Council of the University of Nigeria Nsukka for selecting their son, Prof Simon Ortuanya as the Vice–Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka .”This Is an appointment that Enugu state takes in high regard,s” Dr. Agbo said.

 He added that the state Executives deliberated on issues of  delivering of promises to Ndi Enugu on democracy dividends.

Fielding questions from Newsmen, the Commissioner for youths and sports development,h, Ekweremadu Jnr. spoke on the school sports organised by  the state government recently, saying, the competition was organized to bring back school sports to discover talents and to nurture talents. He added that the talents discovered were being prepared for the upcoming youth games coming up in September in Asaba, Delta state..
