NUJ Enugu elects new Executives as new Chairman Ogbuka urges support 

Three months after the first attempt to conduct the Nigeria Union of journalists( NUJ) Enugu state Council ‘s  election failed , the election eventually held on Saturday, and  a new Executive  led by Comrade Obinna Ogbuka  emerged to run the affairs of the union for the next three years , calling for support for the new leadership.

Announcing the results of the elections at the  Rt. Hon  Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi NUJ  Press centre, Enugu, the Chairman of the Credentials committee, Comrade Sebastian Okafor announced  Comrade Obinna Ogbuka of the Federal  Radio Corporation  of Nigeria chapel as  Chairman, replacing the immediate past chairman,Comrade Sam Udekwe of the Enugu state Broadcasting Service, , having been returned unopposed .The position of the Vice Chairman,  went to  Chinedu Adonu of Vanguard Newspapers, Correspondents chapel , Sulieman Onyeama of the State Information chapel, Secretary,.

The position of the Assistant secretary went to Fred Nnaji of the Enugu State Broadcasting Service chapel, Stephanie Udeh of the  Federal Information chapel  emerged  as the Treasurer, Sandra  Ukeje of Solid FM, Private Broadcasting chapel, Financial Secretary , and Florence Ani as Internal Auditor.

In his acceptance speech shortly after their inauguration, the Chairman, Comrade Obinna Ogbuka thanked the NUJ National leadership for approving the conduct of the  election. He urged support of  members  to achieve desired goals..

Speaking with Newsline Global, Ogbuka  assured he will keep to his campaign promises. He said he will strengthen the existing chapels and creat new ones. Expressing confidence for a new NUJ, Comrade Ogbuka , said,” NUJ  Enugu  state will turn out  a beacon of  hope for other councils. A new NUJ is possible “.

Earlier,  the NUJ zonal secretary, Comrade Eze Adikwo, thanked members for their conduct during the election.. He expressed the confidence that comrade Ogbuka will do well..

A contestant, and immediate past Secretary Comrade Ifeoma Amuta who sought a re-election, congratulated the new Chairman Ogbuka and his Executives. She however said that she won the election. “I congratulate the chairman, Obinna Ogbuka. I won the election but it was manipulated”, Amuta said.

Highlight was prayer offered for the new Executive by Nze Odogwu Odoemenam.
