Enugu Govt  appraises performances of L.G chairmen , urges them to form  economic bloc

Enugu state Government has held a 2024 /2025  Local Government performance appraisal and strategic planning  meeting with the 17 Local Government Chairmen in the state with a call on them to work together and form an economic bloc for better development.

State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah made the call  on Wednesday during  the meeting held at the Old Government Lodge, Enugu .

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Chidiebere Onyia, Mbah said that the meeting was aimed at assessing the performances of the Local Government chairmen in 2024 and  their initiatives for 2025, to determine their level of alignment with Governor Peter Mbah’s vision and Sustainable Development Goals( SDGs)

The Governor noted the importance of economic bloc, saying,” economic bloc is very  important. If you work  together. It will help. The benefits will come in terms of development, job creation and economic growth. He urged them to emulate the South East Governor who had come together to form a regional  economic bloc for the South East zone

Commenting on the presentations made by the chairmen on their achievements so far and their initiatives for year2025, Governor Mbah urged the Chairmen to redouble their efforts in taking down the developmental vision of the Governor to the people in the grassroots, adding that the state government will support them.

He said, ” Your success  is our success. We are all partnering to  improve the government of His Excellency Dr. Peter Mbah. We must all work together to achieve our objectives.

Governor Mbah said that all they did was to help the Local Government chairmen to improve on their leadership. He called on them to wake up to their responsibilities and to report their areas of challenges  noting that the culture of the present administration in the state is evidence-based decision making process that should be exemplified in some of things they measured themselves in 2024 and their project initiatives. The Governor also urged the chairmen to initiate clear projects different from others in line with the state Government ‘s disruptive agenda.

On the SDGs side, Governor Mbah advised the Local Government Chairmen to have a desk officer and also set up a Diasporan desk , noting that the Diasporan community can support them as long as they were transparent

Earlier, the Chairmen took turns to make presentations of their performances, initiatives and challenges since they assumed offices in 2024 ,showcasing projects done and those ongoing aligning with Governor Peter Mbah”s vision to grow the economy to make Enugu a business hub for investment and living.

Speaking with newsmen at the end of their presentations, Enugu North Local Government chairmen, Dr Ibenaku Onoh, Awgu Local Government Area chairman, Hon. Uchenna Okolo, Chairman Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, Obiora Obeagu and Orji River Local Government Area, Hon. Chijioke Anyaegbudike commended the state Governor for smoothing the grounds of development for them in their various areas of jurisdiction.

TThey said the exercise was unprecedented and assured that no part of the state would be left behind in the developmental trajectory of the Governor.

The chairmen said the meeting had given them the opportunity to expand their tentacles in actualizing the basic needs of their people according to the Governor”s vision.

“They said they were glad their camping promises aligned with Governor Peter Mbah ‘s vision and that had made their jobs easy, noting that partnership with the state government in infrastructure, health, WASH, security, education, and agricultural development would transform the rural communities into urban areas.

The state government will hold another meeting with the Local Government chairmen on Monday, February 24, while tracking of their performances will be carried out on a later day.
