Godfrey Okoye University matriculates 1,007 students

Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu ,Friday, matriculated a total of 1,007 students for the 2024/2025 academic sesson.

Speaking at the event held at the university’s premise, Thinkers Corner, Enugu on Friday Enugu, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Rev. Fr Prof. Christian Anieke, said the University was becoming one of the most influential Universities in Africa given its achievements

He disclosed that the institution’s engagement in the world space of academic wrestling had made it one of the most influential added that in January Times Higher Education ranking placed the university as number one in staff-student ratio in Nigeria.

“This is an indicator of the quality of in our University. As a strong University, we are involved in various forms of global competitions and have never participated in any national and international competition without winning a prize.

Our Director of Competitions works assiduously to ensure that our students participate in every important academic or professional competition in the world.

To the newly matriculated students, Rev Fr Prof Anieke said GOUNI was built on core values of yardwork, dialogue, spirituality, academic excellence, collaboration, respect and integrity amongst others.

“Hardwork is the mindset that inspires you to put a significant amount of time and energy into a task. Use dialogue rather conflict to resolve your issues and show tolerance to other people’s religious views.

“Be open to the needs, interests and feeling of others, embrace transparency in inclusion as core values and see diversity as a strength.

“As you begin your studies here, I ask God to bless you with you tremendous success,” Rev Fr Anieke prayed.

He also advised the new students to shun I-don’t-care attitude and to see it as act of irresponsible as well as avoiding disturbing their roommates in the room with loud music

“It is being irresponsible not to clean room and to mess up the toilets in a room you share with your roommates,” Anieke said

Responding on behalf the matriculating students, Ugochukwu Lazarus, commended the University for admitting them. He said the students were inspired by the high moral, hard work and spirituality seen in the University.
