Enugu Govt trains FRSC personnel on resuscitation of accident victims

As one of the measures put in place to resuscitate road accidents victims in the state,and to reduce mortality rate, Enugu State  Government has trained the personnel of the Enugu State Command of the Federal  Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation and healthy living.

Speaking with newsmen, at the event held at the Zonal Command of the FRSC,Enugu, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr Yomi Jaiye said the lecture was aimed at equipping the FRSC personnel with the necessary skills of resuscitating accident victims and victims of sudden collapse . He said the state government was set to revamping the  health sector and had invested so much in equipping the health institutions across the state.. 

Explaining the importance of the lecture to the Corps, Dr. Jaiye said ,”the Federal Road Safety Corps is usually  the  front line and His Excellency ,Dr. Peter Mbah recognises this  and it’s on this note that he is doing massive revamping of our emergency medical responses, getting the ambulances on the way, revamping the emergency centers .

“We cannot do that without getting  the right people as partners. We cannot do that without getting them equipped with all the necessary skills , that’s why he is glad to ensure that training on tips  on how to rescue victims of accident and emergencies on the  highway is delivered to this people and it  was a very detailed training. 

 Speaking on the State Government ‘s commitment in healthcare, he said , “at the Government House, from the Governor’s office, we are determined  to support and  ensure that the  health system is revamped not just at the Primary level, not just at the secondary level , not even just at the tertiary level but out of hospital, green hospital, and that was why these gentlemen  of the Command were trained and I believed that after today, the statistics  of mortality would go down.

 Fielding questions from Newsmen the Sector Commander, Franklin Agbakoba thanked the state government for the training. He said they always have training programs for their  personnel every fortnight at the FRSC training School, Udi, but that very training by Dr. Jaiye was a very  unique one.

Agbakoba added that the FRSC Enugu State Command  had put measures in place to ensuring that there will be accident – free ’ember” month. He said they took advocacy visit on safety to the churches, schools, motor Parks and other public places

He thanked the State government for its efforts in improving healthcare delivery, adding that the state government has provided logistics for the Ember month.

On his part,  the Enugu State Coordinator of  Special Marshall, RS.9. 1, Orji Anthony, said they were impressed that the training was arranged. He thanked Governor Mbah for approving the lecture, saying that  the lecture was impacting .

Earlier during the lecture, on ,”Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation “,  Dr  Jaiye spoke on the importance of regular exercise, eating balance diet and regular consumption of water to keep the body healthy. He did practical demonstration of how best to revive a sudden collapsed patients, saying the first step is to keep the person on the floor, let the chest bare, kneel beside the patient , hold the bone inbetween the breast , tighten the two hands and pumping the heart, fast , hard and steadily so that the blood will pump back to the brain., then, call for health.

He said the victim should not be kept on the couch , water should not be poured on the person, rather the pumping of the heart should be done in a right way, then , seek medical help.
