Enugu State Government says it will establish Teachers Service Commission to be entirely in charge of the proposed Enugu Smart schools which will commence academic activities on January 8,2024.
This was made known by the Commissioner for Information, Aka Eze Aka ,while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting ,held Friday in Government House, Enugu .

He said the teachers for the Smart schools had been trained and the training was “train the trainer’s training. He added that the ;Smart Schools will be equiped with modern facilities ,which included, Solar light, medical Clinic, Library, laboratory, studio for Creative Arts production , internet facilities, Information Communications Technology (ICT) among others
According to the Commissioner, Smart school, Owo will be ready by January 8,2024 and students will be drawn from Four Primary Schools and Two Secondary schools.
On his part, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Gerald Otiji said the Government was working tirelessly to complete reconstruction work at one lane of the New Artisan collasped bridge and “hopefully by next week the Artisan bridge will be re-opened for traffick and we can direct all the trucks to start plying the road, ” the Commissioner said
The Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Obi Ozor on his part, said that the Governor has directed that they decongest the roads in the state to ease traffic. On UgwuOnyeama axis of the Enugu- Onitsha Express road, he said the RCC will open the other lane ( upper). He added that they were fixing the Abor, Nsude road, the RAMP at Coca-Cola, 9Th Mile and other roads for smooth vehicular movement
Ozor also disclosed that the state government has set up an Inter-ministerial committee made up of all the relevant Ministries, stakeholders such the ministry of transport, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Police, the Army, the State and Federal Emergency Management Agencies, as well as the Local government chairmen to assist in managing traffic in every part of the local government areas.
He disclosed that at least, 20 volunteers will be working in the local government.
Ozor said the local government chairmen will inaugurate 20-man volunteer traffic workers to assist the State Traffic Management Agency, ESTMA, in controlling vehicles in the entire state.
The commissioner therefore appealed to residents and motorists to exercise patience, that very soon, the problem of traffic will be over
On the rumour making the rounds that there was recruitment exercise of ESTMA workers, the Commissioner said
the ministry only brought in about 40 Man O’ war volunteers whose job is to ensure that commercial buses and tricycles enter their parks before loading passengers and goods.
He added that the process for application and recruitment will be officially communicated to the public.
Ozor said the ministry will be recruiting few hundreds of traffic wardens by 2024 in order to create employment for the teeming youths of the stat
On Agriculture, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Patrick Ubru, said the ministry was working tirelessly to ensure food security, stimulate economic growth and create job. He noted that the state needs a robust agricultural road map to achieve it’s goals., As a result, there is a 4 years stretch policy (2023-2027) rolled out to enhance Agricultural development in the state .
