Enugu govt holds onboarding ,strategic re-alignment seminar for new commissioners, sets target for 2026

Enugu State Government has held a One- Day  onboarding and strategic re-alignment seminar for the Six newly appointed  Commissioners who were  sworn- in on Wednesday, acquainting them with the policies of Governor Peter Mbah administration and his target of  growing the economy of  the state from 4.4billon Dollars to 30  Billion Dollars, setting targets  for  MDAs for year 2026.

Speaking with  newsmen at the event held on Thursday in his office,  the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia said the seminar  followed a directive by the state  Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, “that in line with the culture we had around  leadership and  around development to bring  the new Commissioners onboard.in the first session, and in  the second session to onboard  all  Commissioners, the existing ones and based on team spirit and team alignment set the target for next year, 2026.

On performances of the Commissioners,  regarding the set targets,  he said  they have a matrix they designed where revenues and things around initiatives across all the sectors   were reviewed, tracked every quarter and information gotten  used for decision making.

In her presentation on Revenue generation, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Revenue, Mrs Adenike Okegbu told the Commissioners that targets were set for ministries, departments and agencies( MDAs) disclosing that the general target was distributed to MDAs.

 She said the International Conference center and others that were not captured in 2024 were given targets. Okegbu revealed that the International Conference Center( ICC) was given a monthly target of N2.5 billion. She urged  the commissioners  to perform optimally, adding that  Performance for the Governor is for them to surpass the target.

The SSA spoke on  Revenue generating strategies which included revenue assurance, e- ticketing among others. She also intimidated the Commissioners on some areas to explore inorder to raise revenue.

Urging them to have free mind and listening ears, she warned them against people who may come to them with bad advice.

She also told them that there would be participatory monitoring and  evaluation, stating that citizens are engaged through feedback channels, budget monitoring committees, and the development of a citizen’s charter.

The Chief of Staff, Victor Udeh in his presentation , spoke to the Commissioners on punctuality and dedication to duty, saying the present administration in the state strongly detests laxity and unproductivity. 

Other areas the new commissioners were educated on were Protocols, and Security. The Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Protocols/ Chief of Protocols , Dan Chukwuma made a presentation on Protocols and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security , Vincent Onyeabo, spoke on security.

The Commissioners were tasked on transparency, accountability, and structured collection , issuance of demand notice of approved taxes and levies.

With the training done, the Commissioners were set to start work and perform optimally.
