…As beneficiaries express gratitude to State govt
Governor of Enugu State , Dr. Peter Mbah has brought succour to the victims of Ibagwa- Ugwogo- Opi Nsukka express road filing station fire disaster which occurred on January 12, 2025, destroying a filing station, houses, vehicles and injuring some people.
Presenting the victims with relief materials which included bags of rice, packs of spaghetti, groundnut oil, clothing materials, mosquito nets, blankets and cheques through the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA , Wednesday, Governor Mbah sympathized with them for their losses. He said the state government felt their pains hence, the intervention to help cushion the effects of losses they incurred when the inferno occurred.
Represented by the Head, Enugu State Emergency Management , SEMA, Mrs Chinasa Mbah, the Governor presented cheques of One Million, Five Hundred Thousand naira( N1,500, 000) to the Owners of the houses gutted by fire,

One Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N1,500,000) and One Million naira( N1, 000,000) respectively to the Owners of Tipper and Lexus Jeep gutted by fire, Four Hundred Thousand Naira (N400,000) to Shop Owners as well as Three Hundred Thousand Naira (N300,000) to affected residents.
He said the incident occurred when a young man was making call at the filling station while a fuel tanker was discharging PSM which made the fuel tanker, filing station, Lexus Jeep, Tipper. ,shops and houses to go up in flames.
The Governor advised residents to always take safety measures by ensuring that there were fire extinguisher in their houses and around their areas. He added that people should avoid making calls while at the filling station or while dispensing fuel as well as when a tanker is discharging a product. Governor Mbah also advised people to avoid smoking around a filling station. He advised filing station owners to have a fire fighting truck at their stations among other safety measures.

Speaking on behalf of other victims, one of the affected landlords, Chief Peter Agbo thanked Governor Mbah for his kind gesture to them and described him as “a good man.”
The owner of the filling station, Ozo Emmanuel Avih who spoke with newsmen thanked Governor Mbah for his kind gesture and his good works in the state. He said he renovated the houses and shops gutted by fire so that the residents could have a place to live in and shop owners to go back to their businesses.
He added that since two months after the incident, he had nothing doing as his only source of income, the filing station was shut down. He appealed to the State Governor to” please assist him by opening his filing station, promising to comply with all safety measures required.
