Dr. Amaka Ngene clears WAEC fees for students of Girls Secondary school, Akagbe Ugwu

…Calls for overhaul of public schools  system

In fulfilment of the pledge she made  during her 5th Annual International Day of the Girl Child celebration in October 2024, a Philanthropist and passionate,  advocate for girls’ empowerment, Dr. Amaka Ngene, Monday, cleared the West African Examination Council (WAEC) fees for all SS3 students of Girls Secondary School Akegbe Ugwu Awkunanaw, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu state 

Speaking at the event held at the School premises in Akagbe Ugwu, Dr. Ngene urged the  principal of the school to refund any WAEC fee paid by any parent (s) of  the students.  She said her intervention underscores her dedication to breaking barriers to education for young girls.

Dr Ngene called for overhaul of Nigeria’s public school system. She advocated for a system where public education up to Senior Secondary School is free, appropriate, and accessible to all children of school age. 

She also emphasized the need to remove the barriers imposed by exit exams, which often exclude underprivileged students from progressing in their education.  

Dr. Ngene’s vision is rooted in the belief that education is a fundamental right and a powerful tool for societal transformation.

Her efforts continue to inspire hope and action,. She urged  stakeholders to prioritize policies that ensure every child, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to thrive.  

As Nigeria grapples with educational challenges, Dr. Ngene’s work serves as a clarion call for systemic change, reminding us that a brighter future begins with investing in the education of today’s children.
