NUJ urges members to make better image of society

Media professionals have been urged to continue to show shining examples of decent living as a group officially saddled with the responsibility of moulding the society.
Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Enugu State Council, Comrade Sam Udekwe made the call in his Christmas message to members of the Council.
In a release signed by the state Secretary of the Union, Dame Ifeoma Amuta and made available to newsmen on Monday in Enugu, ,Comrade Udekwe noted that members of the Union in carrying out their daily activities should place progress of the society above personal sentiments in order to live up to the expectation.

Comrade Udekwe commended the members for their doggedness and resilience in the face of the prevailing economic negativities and asked them to be steadfast and remain a united force for social cohesion and development.

The council chairman also commended the Enugu State government for providing the enabling environment for journalists to go about their legitimate duties, adding that the Union in the state believes they are part of the government as its fourth arm as provided by the Nigerian Constitution, without compromising their watchdog role.

He further expressed hope that the Union would enjoy greater opportunities and occupy its pride of place as a professional body under the current leadership of Alh Alhassan Yahya, given the foundation of peace and progress already manifest in his administration.
While wishing the members a merry Christmas and prosperous New Year, Comrade Udekwe urged them to enter the coming year with the disposition for greater achievements.
