Governor of Enugu State ,Dr Peter Mbah has been commended for his developmental strides in the state ,especially for securing accreditation, upgrading of the former school of nursing to a College, approval for an increase of admission quota from 50 to over 250., which enabled the College to take – off with 283 students.

The Governor was also applauded for creating two campuses for the College ( Awgu and ESUTH ,ParkLane campuses) and for the massive infrastructural development going on in the College.
A World renowned public speaker and Leadership trainer ,Dr Linus Okorie, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Enugu state, Dr Yomi Jaye and the Acting Provost of the Enugu state College of Nursing Sciences, Dr Peace Ani gave the commendation on Saturday, during the Grand Finale of the One week orientation program of the newly admitted pioneer students ( 2024;set)of the College, held at the College of Medicine Enugu state University Teaching hospital ( ESUTH) ParkLane, Enugu ,with the theme, ” “Starting -off Right: Repositioning Nursing Education in Enugu state.”
Speaking at the grand finale of the orientation, the Special guest speaker and founder, GOTNI, Dr. Linus Okorie told the students to always stand out and take a decision to make a difference in the society. He tasked them on striving to be knowledgeable, exhibiting the right attitude attitude, applying the right skills and having the right habit.

Using an acrimony” KASH” meaning, knowledge,attitude,skills and habit in his presentation , Dr Okorie told the students that,” the body of knowledge on how to be a nurse is global, noting that every nurse must depend on his or her body of knowledge , read about different things , observe his or her environment , study the culture of the people where he or she is .

On having the right attitude , he said “attitude is everything. when you are a nurse, and you deliver the right attitude, there is a reward.” You must carry respect and give value in your space. Attitude makes a difference”, he said.
He admonished the students to build a skill of compassion, saying,” the best skill you need as a nurse is empathy”. Speaking on habit, Dr Okorie urged the students to have a right habit. ” Anything you do daily, becomes part of you,”he said.

In his speech, the special Adviser to the Governor on health, Dr. Yomi Jaye urged the students on goal setting . He said , “life is an adventure .You must take adventures in opportunities. Create a crystal clear mental picture of your goal , read about your area of goal . Success is a science, there is a formula. Science has a recipe ,follow it,” he said

Dr Jaye said the aim of the orientation program was to enlighten the students on having a positive mindset, starting strong, , making a societal impact, academic excellence and taking their minds off jappa dreams.
He urged the students to draw a timetable for themselves, have high level of self discipline,
He also tasked the students on hard work, diligence, and committed to their studies in order to enjoy all that the state government has planned for them in the health sector.
‘”Governor Mbah is committed to making a lot of things work well for you. We are committed to seeing that the College of Nursing Sciences is great.”, he said .
. He also charged the students to share knowledge with others, express gratitude,, be respectful, be humble and not to be arrogant. “Hard work pays. Working really hard is what successful people do. Every dreamer who is not a doer is a joker,” Dr. Jaye said.

In her opening remarks, the Acting Provost of the college, Dr Mrs Peace Anih said the students would be awarded both National and Higher National Diploma certificates in Nursing after their 4 years of studying in the College. Some graduates would be awarded Registered Nurse, Registered Midwife and Registered Public health Certificates.
She added that with the establishment of an International Hospital in the state, the students would take advantage of that for their clinical practicals.
The Acting provost disclosed that the college started with 283 students, two campuses, , one at Awgu and the other at ESUTH Parklane.
Speaking on the facilities and human resources available, Dr Ani said ,”there is enough manpower to cater for the students with quality teaching and learning”. She said Governor Mbah had embarked on massive infrastructural development of the College and other challenges identified will be fixed soonest.

In her goodwill message, the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Revenue, Mrs Adenike Okegbu, urged the students to do the “extra”. She urged them to limit their time on social.media ,noting that it can give them the lead.”Position yourself to grace, take over, read more, research , be diligent and pay attention to details
“What will be setting you aside is your ability to stand out courageously without fear.”, she said

Recall that the College of Nursing Sciences received accreditation on August 8, 2024 and was elevated from a School of Nursing to the status of a College of Nursing Sciences, by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria,( NMCN) and the National Board for Technical Education, (NBTE), as well as an approval from the governor and the Federal Government to commence admissions.
