Governor of Enugu state, Dr. Peter Mbah has announced scholarship awards to the children of the late Ogene musician Okezie Mbah, who was shot dead last Friday by a police officer at the anti- cult premises, Enugu.
Announcing the scholarship on Monday when he visited the family of the late Ogene musician in their Ogui -Nike residence , Enugu, Governor Mbah, who was represented by the Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Ngozi Enih, and her Culture and Tourism counterpart, Dame Ugochi Mmadueke, said the scholarship will run from the children’s present classes to the University level.
He also announced that the state government will henceforth take over the welfare of Igbo-Jah’s wife.
His representative, Ngozi Enih said, “the Governor, in his magnanimity has awarded scholarships to the children to university level. Secondly, the state is going to take care of the welfare of Mrs Igbo-Jah going forward.
“This is a calamity to everybody, who loves Enugu State and who is an indigene of Enugu State. The Enugu state government is on top of the matter and they are going to make sure that justice prevails in this matter.
“With me here are the children of the late Igbo-Jah, and the governor has promised them that he is not only going to take care of them from now till university, but also promised to take care of their welfare,” she stated.
Governor Mbah said , ” The State Government will take over the welfare of Igbo-Jah’s wife. henceforth. His words,,”The impact of her husband’s death will be cushioned by the Enugu state
Government.

Speaking, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dame Ugochi Mmadueke said the death of the Ogene musician was a great loss to the ministry of Culture and tourism , Enugu state , Igboland and Nigeria .

In a brief remark , the chairman of Enugu North local government, Dr Obenaku Onph, thanked Governor Mbah for showing concern to the family of the late musician.. He said they were consoled because they knew the whole Enugu people were mourning with them.

Responding, the family’s representative and Igbo-Jah’s elder brother, Chief Joseph Mba, thanked Governor Mbah’s kind gesture to the family , taking over the welfare and education of Igbo-Jah’s children and family – two boys, one girl, and of course, his wife.

Earlier,the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Mainstream media, Hon Dan Nwome, condoled the family of the late musician.He said the state Governor ,Dr.Peter Mbah had on Sunday sent a state government’s delegation led by the Secretary to the State Government Prof Chidiebere Onyia, to condole the family and ordered a full investigation into the incident.

Recall that Enugu State Government, Sunday morning, paid a condolence visit to the family of the slain Ogene musician, Okezie Mba, at Ogui Nike Enugu, restating its determination to ensure that justice is served.
The condolence visit followed the fatal shooting of the popular Ogene musician, on his departure from the Ant-Cultism Tactical Squad facility after what the police described as a friendly visit on Friday.
Governor Mbah had on Saturday taken to his social media handles to sympathise with Igbo-Jah’s family and fans, noting that he had ordered full investigation into the untimely death of the artiste.
Meanwhile, the Enugu State Police had on Saturday announced the arrest of the suspected killer cop, Inspector Ozonwanji Joseph and also released his photographs, assuring that “he will be made to face the full weight of the law upon the conclusion of the investigation.”
Okezie left behind a wife three children, hildren , Chiemerie Mbah ,,SS2, Somtochukwu Mba, JSS 3 and Chinemelemogo Abigail Nnam Crechre.author- Maureen Ikpeama
