Enugu L G polls :Gov Mbah assures support for L.G autonomy  describes process as  free , peaceful

Governor of Enugu state, Dr. Peter Mbah, has reassured support for Local Government autonomy, describing the Local Government elections holding  across the 17 Local Government Areas  of the state as peaceful, saying the process will help bring governance closer to the people.

Governor Mbah made this known to Newsmen shortly after casting his votes on Saturday,21 September,2024  at  his Mbaguzo- Achucha Owo ward at 12;37 pm

He arrived the the polling unit at 12:29pm and  was accredited at 12: 36pm. Speaking on the process, Governor Mbah said ,” The exercise  is very peaceful. It started on time.

 Describing the elections as a very important,exercise,, Governor Mbah  said,” This is democracy . This is a very important exercise because we are trying to elect people who will ead  our people at the grassroot.   . “The Local Government had always operated as an autonomous arm  of  the Government. Our mandate is to ensurer that our people are lifted from the level of poverty. We are going to support the Local Government to allow their programmes.

On his impression on the mass turnout of voters  at his polling unit, Governor Mbah said , ” The  voters’ turn out showed that  people believe that government ‘s decision  will touch their lives.

“People are becoming increasingly aware  that Government will touch  their lives.. 

” People have resolved to  choose those that will lead them . It must be done  in a democratica way and we won’t take it for granted. So, if it’s democracy, we must allow it  run as democracy.This is a  level  play game for  everybody.

The governor who waited patiently for his turn in the queue to cast his vote, expressed his administration’s readiness to support those who would emerge winners irrespective of political party affiliation

In an interview , the President General of the Owo town union, Chief John Ogbu-okeke and the crown prince of Owo, Chief Joseph Nnajieze, who commended the people of Owo for coming out en-mass to exercise their franchise, expressed optimism that their choice of candidate would emulate the footsteps of the governor in his developmental strides.
