Nwoye lauds Corporate Online media practitioners on prompt reportage, tasks journalists on objectivity

Former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress ( APC) Enugu state chapter, Dr. Ben Nwoye has applauded Corporate Online media practitioners on their commitment in disseminating information to members of the public   promptly , noting that Online media occupy  a global area, putting out news.

He  gave the commendation, Monday, when he received  the Executives of the Corporate Online Chapel ( COC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Enugu state Council, in his residence in Enugu.

Dr Nwoye said he invited the Online Chapel leadership to congratulate them on their successful election and to encourage them .

“I invited you here to congratulate you and thank you. You occupy a sensitive area. The area you occupy is global unlike the other media. When it comes to the news you pull out   Nigerians are all over the world  ,they are interested in what is happening and the world  now is a global sphere.

” If one wants to hear about Nigeria, you just go to Google and search Nigerian news ,if you want to go local, you narrow it down to Southern Nigeria news,, you capture it. You narrow it down again to South East. If you want to be specific you narrow it to Enugu . It is not so  with our newspapers, so, you occupy a peculiar area of information dissemination.

” You, being the leadership , I urge you to report the truth, report courageously,  speak through the power, search for truth, you are professionals , separate yourself from those who  use it negatively to portray misinformation .

“Most  people rely on you to cook up the story  that they consume. As you are putting the ingredients together , as you are making the dish , you garnish it with the truth, with professionalism, with core journalism ethics, so you can differentiate yourselves from those who picked up their phones and formulate garbage and just occupy the social media space. I commend you for gathering yourselves together so we know  who is who and whatever medium you represent.

“We are active and when we see those that are feeding us wrongly, we stop eating their gabbages”, he said.

Speaking further on the importance of online media in the society, Nwoye said  he reads news online on daily basis.

“I take my news breakfast from  my phone. As you are  preparing  that  breakfast garnish it well  and differentiate yourselves from those  who picked up their  phones  and formulate garbage , and occupy the media space , so that we know the difference, we know who is who and who is a professional.

” Unlike others, you are  non- time restrictive. You are holding  the  torch. The days of going to Newspaper stands, waiting for evening news Newspapers were things of the past. As things were revolving, you are constantly checking .

“So, I am confident that the reason you pulled yourselves together is also to make it better, make the meal you are serving us better, so that your credibility which you have already built will be maintained ,” he said.

Nwoye also admonished the Corporate Online Chapel Leadership to prioritize  professionalism in admitting intending   members.

“There  must be entry requirements and when you enter, there must also be a residence requirement There must be mechanism, otherwise , you eject the non- performing resident.

“I called to say thank you. That’s the reason why I called,” Dr Nwoye said.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Corporate Online Chapel, Comrade Clinton Umeh, thanked Dr Nwoye for the honour given to the chapel Executives. He assured that members will always execute their duties objectively .

“As a Chapel, what you had charged us with is not far from our mandate. I assure you  that we will not disappoint our leaders. It is a wake -up call  for us”, he said . .
