NUJ commends President Tinubu for signing into law SEDC …Charges EEDC to be responsible in power distribution, charges

Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)Enugu state Council has commended President Bola Tinubu for signing into law the South East Development Commission, calling on those who will be elected as representatives to focus on the issues that have for long affected the Southeast region rather than enriching themselves.

Arising from it’s July congress, chaired by the state Chairman, Comrade Sam Udekwe, the Union cautioned the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company EEDC to be responsible in the generation of their charges for consumers in the wake of the classification of tariffs in bands

These were contained in a -6-Point Communique presented and made available to newsmen by the Secretary, Dame Ifeoma Amuta at the end of the meeting held at the Rt. Hon.( Dr.) Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi NUJ Press Center,Enugu,Thursday, July 25,2024.

The Congress frowns at what it described as the indiscriminate placement of customers of EEDC at categories that are not appropriate for their consumption.

The Congress called on the Enugu State Ministry of Environment to intervene in the worsening erosion that is threatening to destroy lives and property in the Trans Ekulu and New Layout areas of the state and other environs.

The Congress noted with dismay the activities of the Enugu traffic officers and called on the Enugu state government to prevail on traffic officers to discharge their duties of controlling traffic instead of embarrassing commuters at traffic lights.

The .Congress called on security operatives, including the Nigerian Army ,the Nigerian Police and others to work towards curbing the rising cases of kidnapping in Enugu State.

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE End of the CONGRESS of the NIGERIA UNION OF JOURNALISTS, ENUGU STATE COUNCIL on July 25, 2024 .

The Union led by Comrade Sam Udekwe after extensive deliberations on the welfare of members and overall progress of the Council, came up with the following resolutions:

1.Congress calls on the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company EEDC to be responsible in the generation of their charges for consumers in the wake of the classification of tariffs in bands
