. Organized Labour in Nigeria Thursday,July 18, accepted the Federal Government ‘s N70,000 minimum wage proposal
This was announced by Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, at the end of the meeting with labour at the State House, Abuja on Thursday.
Explaining why Labour accepted the proposal, the Preesident of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Joe Ajero said the Organise agreed to ₦70,000 as the new min wage for Nigerian workers because President Tinubu accepted to pay N250,000 with a condition that he will increase pump price.
He added that the wage reviews in the country will no longer be every five years but once in three years.
“Today, we went there to tell him, ‘No’. The labour movement can make sacrifices without allowing Nigerians to suffer further on the increase in the pump price of petroleum products.”
The pump price of petrol jumped from ₦184 in May 2023 when Tinubu declared “subsidy is gone” to about ₦600-N770 depending on the part of the country.
