ActionAid seeks partnership with Enugu Govt to end poverty, accelerate development


A Non- Governmental Organization, ActionAid ,Nigeria has sought partnership with the Enugu state Government aimed at poverty eradication, and accelerating developments in the state.

Country Director , ActionAid, Nigeria, Celestine Okwudili Odoh made that known on Wednesday during a courtesy visit on the Governor of Enugu state, Dr Peter Mbah in Government House Enugu.

He appealed to the state Government to support ActionAid’s development intervention in the state, by boosting infrastructures within their project communities.

Odoh explained that ActionAid Nigeria is a member of ActionAid Federation; a global movement of people utilising the Human Rights Based Approaches to eradicate poverty and engender social transformation.
“We have footprints in about 70 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. We work with people living in poverty, the poor and excluded .

“We are optimistic that with a strengthened relationship with the state government, we will have the opportunity to harness our collective strengths, leverage resources, and forge innovative solutions to tackle social development issues facing Enugu State,”he said.

The Country Director said the visit reinforces their belief that Enugu State Government’s development agenda aligns with the ActionAid Nigeria’s country strategy framework of using social justice to end poverty and their collaborative approach towards achieving sustainable development and inclusive growth for citizens.

Responding, Governor Mbah, who was represented by the Deputy Governor,Ifeanyi Ossai, tasked the organization to take advantage of the developmental agenda of the state Government and work with the government ‘s team.

He urged them to ensure that whatever program they were designing for intervention in the state has a clearly defined strategy, and an implementation protocol that enables the state Government to go from point one to point two. “That from today ,we can see what we get from next week and some months to come. In that way , we are able to explain to our people in the language they understand”, he said .

Governor Mbah added that they were trying to bring down those wide areas of reach of most Non- Governmental Organisations to a realisable frameworks that enables the state government to get value within the shortest possible time .

ActionAid started operations in Nigeria in 2000, and worked across the six geopolitical zones, including the FCT.
