Nigerian Army has confirmed the killing of six of its personnel, including two officers and four soldiers, in an encounter with terrorists in Karaga Village, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
It was gathered that the men were ambushed on April 19 while troops from the 1 Division Nigerian Army, stationed at Allawa and Erena, were on a fighting patrol mission to Karaga Village.
According to a statement made available by , the Director of Army Public Relations, Onyema Nwachukwu, said the troops valiantly engaged in the ambush and succeeded in neutralizing several of the terrorists while also seizing some of their equipment.
“Despite their bravery, the unfortunate loss of six personnel is a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by security forces combating terrorism in the region”, he noted.
The General Officer Commanding 1 Division and Commander of Operation Whirl Punch ,Landers Saraso, expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers.
He assured them that the Army is resolute in its commitment to ensuring that the sacrifice of their loved ones is not in vain and pledged that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
In the aftermath of the incident, Saraso revealed that the troops are currently in pursuit of the surviving terrorists who fled the scene
“The Army is determination to track down and apprehend those responsible for the attack, reinforcing their unwavering dedication to safeguarding the peace and security of the nation”, Saraso stated.
