Standard Organisation of Nigeria( SON) has advised producers and manufacturers in the country to adhere to approved procedures to achieve standards in the production of their goods ,warning that anyone found sabotaging the Organization’s efforts of ensuring quality assurance in manufacturing and importation of goods in the country, will be prosecuted.

The Director General/ Chief Executive Officer of SON, Dr. IfeanyiChukwunonso Okeke gave the advice in his address presented at the SON’s special day held on Friday, at the om- going Enugu Interview Trade Fair organised by the Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industry Mining and Agriculture ( ECCIMA) at the Trade Fair permanent site,Golf estate,G.R.A.Enugu.
The DG/ CEO, who was represented by the Enugu state Coordinator, Engr. Peter Amen ,said SON had put in place policies that ensure hat Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMs) and relevant stakeholders are involved in standards development process through inclusion in Technical Committees for elaborating standards .
He said the essence is to create an enabling environment for the sector to be part of the standardization process so that products emanating from their system would meet global standards .
Okeke noted that the theme” Promoting made in Nigeria Products for competitiveness” in the emerging global market was timely, especially with tbe standards harmonization program in Africa under the African Regional Organization for Standardization (ARSO).” He added that that will among other standardization activities of ARSO, create a common market for African countries and beyond as actions of member countries will be streamlined in accordance with the policies and guidelines”

In his speech, the president of ECCIMA, Sir Odeiga Jideonwo, who was represented by the Deputy President, Engr. Nnanyelugo Onyemeluker, said the efforts in standardizing goods is for the good of the Consumers .He explained that the products will be lifted to international standards and will give better yields.
Jideonwo said SON regulates and ensures that products/ goods, mainly equipment and non consumable goods are produced to the product authentication mark(PAM) standard called MAN CAP for goods manufactured in Nigeria or SONCAP for goods imported from oversea .

He commended the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of SON, Dr. IfeanyiChukwunonso Okeke for making the special day a success . The President expressed the hope that the partnership between DON and ECCIMA would be deepened and sustained.

In their goodwill messages, some manufacturers and producers said SON corrects and directs them on achieving quality products. They thanked SON for their guidance which helped them in meeting internation standards in their production.
