Nigeria’s senior football team, Super Eagles, Wednesday night qualified for the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after defeating South African national team, Bafana Bafana 4-2 on penalty shootouts.
The Super Eagles will play against the host, Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire on Sunday
The Elephants advanced to the final after beating DR Congo 1- 0 with Sebastain Haller’s goal in 65th minute.
Recall the two finalists met in the group stage of the tournament and Super Eagles beat the Elephants with 1 goal.

How Super Eagles qualified for finals:
At a keenly contested semi finals match, against Bafana Bafana of South Africa,
regulation and extra time ended 1-1 after both team converted one penalty each late in the second half of the encounter.
The Captain, Troost Ekong converted from the spot in the 67th minute after Victor Osimhen, African footballer of the year, was fouled in the box 18.
Also, in the 90th minute, T Mokoena also converted a spot kick to equalize for the South Africans.

All efforts for either of the team to to score another goal in regulation and extra time proved abortive as the Moroccan referee signalled the end of the encounter after 120 minutes.
The Super Eagles Terem Moffi, Keneth Omeruo, Troost Ekong and Kelechi Iheanacho converted their penalties w.whilethe South Africans missed two, bringing the final result to 4-2, which qualifies Super Eagles for finals
