Nigeria Association of Women Journalists Enugu State chapter has advised Women Journalists to increase awareness and share knowledge and innovations to end all forms of violence against women and girls.
This was contained in a statement signed by the State Chairperson Comrade Ngozi Ngene and Secretary, Comrade Ogochukwu Chukwudike at the end of a peaceful protest that terminated at the Rt. Hon. ( Dr.) Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi Nigeria Union of Journalists press centre, Enugu, to mark the 16th day of activism which started on 25th November to 10th December 2023.
The statement read in parts:
“The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists Enugu calls for more action to ensure that women in all their diversity live free from violence which can only be achieved if we increase awareness on the Violation of Against Person Prohibition Bill and Administration of Criminal Justice laws.
“NAWOJ Enugu State confirmed that an injury to one is an injury to all while Justice to one is justice to all.
“NAWOJ Enugu State believes that awareness campaigns and sensitization on implementation of Violence Against Persons Prohibition law and Administration of Criminal Justice law laws will drastically reduce violence against Women and girls to the barest minimum.
“They advised all women journalists to use their various media outlets to increase campaign on eradication of violence against women and girls in the society.
“The Association stressed that the government should ensure speedy justice for victims of violence and make sure that perpetrators are sentenced to jail as stated in the law.
“The Association urges government, agencies, traditional rulers, religious bodies, Civil Society Organizations, and stakeholders, to invest in preventing violence against women and girls” We must change the narrative, challenge misogyny and violence, and make sure women and girls should be able to access the help they need and feel safe in the society,” NAWOJ said.
