Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti, the youngest son of legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, on Monday (May 15) presented himself to the Lagos State Police Command to face investigation regarding an alleged assault on a police officer.
Accompanied by his lawyer and a family member, Seun presented himself at the State Criminal Investigation Department in the Panti area of the state.
According to the Police Public relations officer, Lagos State Police Command, , Benjamin Hundeyin, Seun’s surrender follows a recent video capturing the musician assaulting a police officer. The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, ordered the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command to arrest Seun in response to the incident.
Hundeyin explained that once the investigation is completed, the police will proceed with prosecuting the singer if there are reasonable grounds to do so. The force public relations officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that the Inspector-General of Police has ordered a prompt and thorough investigation into the assault, saying that acts of contempt or disdain for symbols of authority will not be tolerated.
